Frequently Asked Questions
Are these placemats machine washable?
Many of the reviewed fabric placemats are machine washable — Spode and the Solino items note machine washing (with low tumble or low iron recommendations). Burlap runners generally benefit from airing out and spot cleaning rather than machine washing due to natural fibers and potential fraying.
How do I keep placemats from sliding during buffet service?
Lay a thin non-slip mat underneath, use small rubber-backed pads under corners, or secure edges with removable double-sided table tape or tablecloth clips. For fabric placemats, an inexpensive non-slip shelf liner under the mat works well and won’t damage surfaces.
Which material hides crumbs and stains best?
Dark colors, busy patterns and textured weaves hide crumbs and minor stains best. Polyester/plastic placemats are easiest to wipe clean; among the reviewed items, burlap and darker linen-blend colors tend to camouflage crumbs, while pure light linen shows stains more readily.
